Following on from ‘This Line Terminates Here’, Quilotoa return with single ‘Ambivalence City’.

Choppy baselines carry floaty synths and guitars, accompanied by samples from the legendary Roland CR-78 drum machine. A more stripped back style from previous offerings, Quilotoa are moving their sound toward the dance floor, creating dream like spaces and soundscapes.

The duet say of Ambivalence City - “Cities are places of contradiction. Centres of culture and community, but simultaneously socially individualistic, heterogeneous and anonymous. Places of enterprise, creativity and ideas, but also inequality, where there are no tangible outputs but where for some, everything is plentiful. High productivity and ignored stagnation.

They are teaming with life yet biologically in decline. We look at cities in ore of the slick, towering skylines, and enticed by dark, dirt, and depravity. Anonymity is freeing but can be isolating. For us, there is nowhere quite like the city.

This song tries to capture the excitement and energy we feel in the city scape, which we think is created in all the contradictions.”
